Known locally as ‘The Church in the Clouds’, St Anne’s parish church, built 1856-7, consists of a nave, chancel and north porch in Early English style with a Romanesque style northeast tower. Over several years, the church has suffered structural movement to the nave and chancel, which dramatically accelerated in the summer of 2018, when part of the nave and chancel east wall had to be dismantled for safety reasons. Carrek began the meticulous task of reconstructing the wall in the summer of 2023, which included the installation of a new stone buttress to support the south end of the nave/chancel wall, as well as the introduction of significant structural reinforcement ties.
Other works included repointing the south and west upper tower elevations, the installation of new above and below ground drainage pipes and gutters and rebuilding two sections of the churchyard wall.
